Solutions to Extend Your Life with Resveratrol. Part Two

Many doctors have told their patients to drink red wine to improve their heart function. Red wine is good for anti-aging as well, but that doesn’t mean by drinking many glasses it will rewind your biological clock to your teenage years! And that maybe a good thing.  It’s not the alcohol in the wine but rather, it’s the resveratrol, the primary ingredient in red wine, that will make you feel more youthful and energetic.

In a review study conducted by Harvard University — which released its findings in the Nutrition and Metabolism Journal in 2006 — resveratrol was found to extend the life expectancy of every organism that it has been fed to, including yeast, worms and fruit flies. “The wonder substance seems to work in the same way as drastic calorie cutting to increase life span,” the study concluded. The mechanisms of resveratrol apparent effects on life extension are not fully understood, but they appear to mimic several of the biochemical effects of calorie restriction.

Some studies indicate that resveratrol activates Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and PGC-1a and improves functioning of the mitochondria. There are many resveratrol supplements in the market, but the scientists recommend that people be wary and find a quality brand that delivers on its promises. The big issue is that resveratrol is not easily absorbed by the body as it’s not water soluble (hence the use of liquid to carry it). Several interviews on resveratrol have been reported on 60 minutes, 20/20 and other news programs.

Dr. Bryan C. Donohue of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Shadyside Hospital, says early-stage clinical trials now under way are examining resveratrol’s effectiveness among patients with heart disease, cancer, dementia and a host of other modern illnesses.

In the meanwhile, some people simply looking for greater energy, enhanced clarity of thought and advanced overall well being are already benefiting from resveratrol supplementation, Donohue said.

After years of research, Vivix™ Cellular Anti-Aging Tonic, an exclusive Shaklee product, was introduced in August, 2008. This revolutionary compound fights against cellular aging. Vivix™ is made with the purest and most potent natural resveratrol available and contains a unique profile of polyphenols which have been shown to address mechanisms of cellular aging in several laboratory tests.  Vivix ingredients combat these key mechanisms by; repairing cellular DNA, positively impacting genetic regulators to help turn down aging, and promoting mitochondrial biogenesis to increase power production within cells.*

The recommended serving of Vivix is one teaspoon daily (which delivers the equivalent amount of Resveratrol in 100 glasses of red wine) taken preferably with breakfast or lunch. Vivix is all natural without artificial flavors, sweeteners, colors or added preservatives

The last part of the series will follow next month.
